À la chocolaterie

A historical and industrial area, an award winning dance company, a young composer from Fribourg, an experienced composer from Basel, an ensemble of soloists of international reputation and a multipurpose choir of college students have all got together to create a challenging project.

One of the most interesting challenges in the site specific choreographies of « À la chocolaterie » was the dialogue with live contemporary music, some of the pieces having been specially composed and performed for the site. The confrontation with the atmosphere and architecture inspired and determined our choreographic work : sites’s history and its industrial use, empty spaces full of workers’ stories and experiences, the contrast between the industrial coldness and the sensuality and warmth of partly bare bodies.

The premises of the former building of the Villars Chocolate Factory (Fribourg, CH) were used as a stage. A space measuring approximately 125 x 22 metres, punctuated by steel columns supporting the brick building from around 1900, inspired choreographers and composers, dancers and musicians.
